The Fusion is a decent midsize sedan. It has a spacious interior and above-average cargo capacity for its class. It offers a decent balance of comfort and athleticism, and its sharp steering and robust engine options lend this car plenty of punch. However, many rivals offer higher safety and predicted reliability scores. The Fusion also trails most classmates with its fuel economy estimates, though its hybrid version fares better in this area.
The 2017 Fusion earned a perfect five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It received four stars in front and rollover crash tests, but five stars in side crash testing. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the Fusion a 2017 Top Safety Pick; it received the highest score of Good in all areas crash tested, as well as a Superior rating in frontal crash prevention.
A rearview camera comes standard in every Fusion. Also standard is Ford’s MyKey system, which allows you to set volume and speed limits for teen drivers. Many advanced safety technologies are available, including rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, park assist, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection. Automatic high beams and rain-sensing wipers are available, too.
